What a GREAT bar!! Open late and fabulous staff. They make one hell of a Long Island Ice Tea!!! Been there multiple times, and depending on the time of evening and day of the week, there is a wide range of people in this bar. No watered down drinks there!!!

Found the Red Lion on a search for a dive bar in SOHO, Bham. This cool place is beneath the Big Bad Breakfast and it's in the back. Hard to find if you didn't know to look for it. Ms. Di was our caretaker for each of our two nights there. If you like sweet drinks, ask Di to make you a long island iced tea. It'll get your night going! We were excited to check it out even before we went and now can't wait to visit again when we hit the Ham in March! I highly recommend this low-key, super-friendly spot. It's small and cozy and we felt welcomed from the very first moment. This is the kind of spot I'd like to own when I retire.

Love this place! awesome little dive bar. I had friends in from out of town and we were looking for a regular bar to hang out at during the week. We came upon it really by accident. Taffy was our bartender and she was awesome. I can’t wait to go back!

Great place! Staff is very friendly. They were having a Christmas party and had an assortment of different holiday dishes and foods. Everyone was encouraged to partake and fireball soaked cherries were passed around. Since it was our first time there, we were asked to sign the customer book with our name and state of residence. Can't wait too go back.

If I was not in my hometown, I would walk into Red Lion and immediately assume it’s a “local hangout”. Its in the basement under Big Bad Breakfast. Very low key, friendly and casual. I’ve lived in the area for several years and didn’t even know it was there!!! I don’t even think there’s a sign, at least not on the Main Street. It really has the “Cheers” vibe, and you feel like a lot of the people there, are frequent customers. Everyone is friendly. We went with another couple that are Long Island Ice Tea aficionados, they said Red Lion’s are the best in town. I’m not sure if that is there “specialty”, but a lot of people had them on their tables. I love the walkability around Homewood from that bar! Really great location!!!

Had a great time! Jukebox had oldies from every genre and $8 pitchers are nice! Good for a chill night with some friends. It was refreshing to be able to talk and hear yourself speak, and we were able to sing along to the music. The TV and free snacks were also a nice addition! We'll be back!

Quirky place, funky decor, great bartenders and even better company. It's got the vibe of a local place, so I was hesitant not being a local, but everyone was so nice and welcoming!

Our favorite bar in Bham, hands down. Taffy and Di are the best bartenders in the city! They make everyone feel welcome. The ambience is exactly what you’d want in a dive bar. If you’re in the Homewood area, this funky little dive is an absolute can’t miss! Make sure to bring some dollar bills for the jukebox when you stop by!

Very rarely do I travel and find such a place that just feels like home. This hidden gem 💎 (and I mean hidden) was the perfect spot to catch an Alabama game 🎮 the atmosphere was the perfect spot for some commeradery and to meet new friends. The drinks were cheap and it wasn't long before we were buying drinks and having them bought for us. I met a slew of people that I was very happy to interact with. The crowd was a huge mix of older people and younger but I was very happy I found this spot... 60 years in business and I could definitely understand why. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

Talk about a DIVE! Went here with some “friends” the other day… had a blast… and can’t forget about Taffy oh Taffy behind the bar. Sweet angel and she makes it feel just like home. Our crew had a few on draft and pumped the tunes on the juke like the old days. Would lounge here again in a heartbeat. Great patty-oh outside and inside is great too. Lots of great stuff here at red lion.
